While we wait to count the write-in votes...

...here's a little story from 1944 Canada that rings true here and now: Mouseland run by the cats The Premier of Saskatchewan gave the following speech in 1944 when running for office. It is quite apt in today's America: "This is the story of a place called Mouseland. Mouseland was a place where all the little mice lived and played, were born and died. And they lived much the same as you and I do. They even had a parliament. And every four years they had an election. Used to walk to the polls and cast their ballots. Some of them even got a ride to the polls. And got a ride for the next four years afterwards, too. Just like you and me. And every time on election day all the little mice used to go to the ballot box and they used to elect a government. A government made up of big, fat, black cats. Now if you think it strange that mice should elect a government of cats, look at the history of Canada for the last 90 years and maybe you'll see they weren't any stupider t...

PRIORITIES: Nita Lowey on War vs. Wardrobe

On March 17, 2003 - three days before the invasion of Iraq began - I visited the office of Rep. Nita Lowey to inform her that there were no "Weapons of Mass Destruction" in Iraq. This is what happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-s0youbQpc

HOW TO WRITE-IN: Sample Ballot Available

Click here - http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2010101027006 - look at your community's ballot. Column 12 is for "Representative in Congress" and at the bottom of the column is the box for "Write-In" - PRINT "Don DeBar" UNDER the words "Write-In" in column 12 to vote for Don DeBar for Congress.

Closing in on Election Day, Lowey still invisible

After ducking out of the League of Women Voters debate on October 19, Lowey and her hand-picked "Republican write-in candidate" Cortes DeRussy were the only candidates invited the next day to the Journal News Editorial Board for a "debate" that more resembled a race to the bottom, policy-wise. We have been experiencing a similar problem - i.e., a news blackout - with News12 (which has yet to even mention our campaign). Although we announced this campaign a month before DeRussy, and although we actually have major policy differences with Lowey over such issues as the wars (we want out NOW!), the economy (we want to put the money in the hands of the people and not the banks, and want the people's debt to be reduced by the amount given in bailouts), we were not invited to the JN "debate". In fact, except for a blog posting by Marcela Rojas on the Journal News website on September 30, our campaign has not been mentioned once in their pages. DeRussy, howev...

Anti-war activist announces write-in campaign against Lowey

Says new machines make write-in win possible OSSINING - Anti-war activist Don DeBar, fresh from a meeting last night between US anti-war activists and Iranian President Ahmindinijad, announced today that he will wage a write-in campaign against Rep. Nita Lowey (D-18) on an anti-war platform. DeBar attended the conference as a part of a delegation led by former Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA). "Aside from murdering thousands of Iraqis, Afghanis and Pakistanis, the Obama Administration, like the Bush Administration before it, is squandering hundreds of billions of dollars that are desperately needed for jobs, schools, health care and housing and foreclosure assistance," he said, adding "Lowey has been signing on to every military supplemental for these wars since they began." DeBar went to Lowey's office on March 18, 2003, a day before the "Shock and Awe" attack on Baghdad, attempting to show her evidence that the Bush Administration had misrepresented th...

Well, My Hat's in the Ring!

I decided Wednesday that I am running for Congress after all - in NY's 18th CD (Westchester/Rockland counties) to be exact. Since I decided too late to primary for a spot on the ballot, I am running as a write-in candidate. Before you dismiss this out of hand, you should know that the new voting machines make it very easy to write-in candidates, so there is an actual possibility of winning if a strong campaign can be assembled and delivered to voters. Some details of my campaign were posted at the Journal News blog site yesterday and can be viewed at http://yorktown.lohudblogs.com/2010/09/23/ossinings-debar-wages-write-in-campaign-against-lowey/ I could use all the help anyone can offer, starting with a campaign manager, fundraiser, FEC compliance person, etc. Please contact me at dondebar@gmail.com or 914 374-2475 (cell) asap! What is going on in Washington, and what can we do about it?

With our economy in shambles, our military fighting wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan (and our leaders making noise against Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, Bolivia, Somalia and Yemen), our infrastucture decaying and our state and local governments on the brink of bankruptcy, the very same Washington politicians who promised change in 2006 and 2008 seem instead completely devoted to continuing on the course charted out over the last decade by their supposed rivals. Why is this? Why can a Democratic President and Democratic Congress not bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan? And why have they instead increased the number of troops in Afghanistan and expanded the war to Pakistan? Why did the transfer of wealth from the working- and middle-classes to the wealthy actually intensify under President Obama and the Democratic Congress from the record levels reached under President Bush and the Republicans? And why did so many Democrats campaign on promises to continue the Bush tax ...
