How Langley views Ukraine in its plans for Russia
I remember the days when official US policy - and, thus, media coverage - regarding US Soviet relations went from detente (so called) to military, political, social and PR warfare.
The apparent catalyst was the Soviet "invasion" of Afghanistan. I put the word in quotes because this was a much more complex phenomenon that was completely not the ridiculous parody that US propaganda portrayed, but I do not want to argue that here - I have another point to make.
See this map of the USSR from the time:
https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/soviet-union-map.htmLocate Afghanistan at the bottom. Note that it borders the Soviet Union on its south, adjoining three Soviet states - Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic (now Turkmenistan), Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic (Uzbekistan) and Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic (Kazakhstan).
See this map of the Russian Federation today:

Note that it borders Russia, three former Soviet Republics (Belarus, Moldova and Kazakhstan) and four former members of the Warsaw Pact (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania), a military alliance of those European countries that the Soviet Union occupied from 1945 (after World War) II until 1989.

Suffice to say history demonstrates clearly that he completely misrepresented the situation, lied when he said that the Afghan government did not ask the USSR for military assistance, completely mischaracterized the assassination of Hafizullah Amin (and the US still does, but read CAREFULLY this history to understand the situation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafizullah_Amin) and completely omitted the US role in events there at the Soviet border.

This is Brzezinski three decades later, in January, 2011, a month before the US/NATO adventure in Libya destroyed all trust in US policy for Russia and China; Brzezinski revealed US intentions towards Ukraine three years before the coup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnXaFMFU3v4
Finally, this is Biden after the Russian military began its operation on February 24, 2022:

Although the US, EU and their various colonial regimes have been screaming about an alleged Russian genocide in Ukraine, the civilian death toll as of October 24, 2022 (according to the official count from the UN Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights) is 6,374, more than half in the eastern territories and at the hands of Ukraine's military, a number representing fewer than the US civilian death toll in the first TWENTY DAYS of "Shock and Awe" in Iraq.
